On this page, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who over the last 11 years has helped me become who I am today.
Among them has been my team of Vice Presidents at Vodafone and Oskar, a gang of passionate overachievers that we referred to as the ECO (Executive Council of Oskar), and who included Andreas Laukenmann, Andre Jerome, Francinne Hansen, Fred Hrenchuck, Muriel Anton, Ann Hofvander, Mario Mele, Igor Přerovský, David Meneghello, Stephen Blanchette, as well as, in our earlier days, Regina Miller, Sylvie Scott, Ante Rupcic, and Jeff Williams. Together, we bonded as a special club, and my time spent with these remarkable people of the ECO team has been unforgettable.
Likewise my team at Connex, Daron Stewart, John Ketchum, Sylvie Scott, Brenda Andrachuk, Aneta Bogdan, Bob Cummings, Kerilee Snatenchuk, Richard Turski, David Scott, Larry Steed, my former boss Carol Faull, and my colleague of many years JJ Jackson, all stood by me in times when my leadership style was anything but nurturing.
Indeed, developing a leadership style is never an easy process, and I can't thank enough everyone who has had the patience and the drive to stick with me, and be part of the team. Not only have they managed to produce amazing results - making me look good -- but they have pushed themselves and excelled at their jobs, as all the while they have also patiently contributed to my learnings as a leader, helping me to figure things out, more often than not, by trial and error. These people include not just the ECO but also the directors and managers in the Oskar Leadership Council (OLC), who have always stood by me, ready as a strong team of hardworking and honest advisors.
I am addicted to strong talent and smart people, and have been incredibly fortunate to have met and worked with such a wide array of people possessing those indispensable traits - indeed, it's their level of talent that I miss most about my days overseas.
I am so proud of all of them, especially now, as I watch them move on to do even more exciting things - not just in telco, but even in fashion and entertainment - in all sorts of exciting places - searching out new opportunities and adventures in Canada, Romania, Spain, Czech Republic, Dubai, Serbia, UK, Russia, USA. My greatest joy from leadership has been seeing the personal growth of the people that I've worked with continue in so many fascinating and fulfilling directions. And it is especially satisfying to see the growth in those who have so selflessly contributed to mine.
Speaking of personal growth and development, I would like to thank Bruno Ducharme, who as my president at TIW, took a risk on me, allowed me to experiment, looked past the fact that when I was starting I was an inexperienced leader, and never looked at me as just a woman or Al's wife, always treating me fairly and with respect.
I have to say all is true about Al Tolstoy as well, who supported me from the very start of my career and later on became my husband. Al is truly my soul mate and I could not be where I am today without him. He is one of a kind, my ying to my yang, peanut butter to my jelly, and my constant inspiration. Of course, Al often does look at me as a woman, wife and mother - in those spare moments when I am not frenetically attempting to engage him in business talk.
I believe mixing fun with business is absolutely vital for finding successful solutions - as do my teams around me. So it's not surprising that to celebrate our six years of shared trials and triumphs at Oskar, the ECO team decided to present me something that not only reflects our common passion for creativity and the unconventional, but also, is especially pragmatic at this stage in my career: this website you are now browsing.
More than just introducing me personally, this website presents the brand that my teams and I have created together. In fact, we even used the construction of this site as an opportunity to further explore and define my personal brand attributes. Researching this website has been a journey of personal brand discovery, involving the input and contributions of people who have known me throughout my career. I would like to thank all of them, not least because, along the way, I came to know myself better, and became more clearly focused on what I want to do in the future. And of course, I would like to acknowledge the behind-the-scenes team that has kept this project fun and refreshing. These guys include the internet wizards at Symblaze, Michael Horton and Josh Morgerman, writer Pavel Jech who always makes sure I sound like me, and my trusted executive assistant Ioana Hoisescu, who has been a trooper all along and managed the construction and execution of this site. I see all of them as good friends, and I have a deep respect for their talent and who they are as people.
Thanks also to my personal support team, former nanny Sarka Hajkova, former guy Friday Zdenek Rejl, and yet again to my long-time assistant Ioana who knows me better then anyone, has stuck with me through thick and thin, and has faithfully been both a sounding board as well as a source for honest direct feedback. It was not always easy for me to be a good wife, mom, friend and manager, so I have to thank everyone who has had the patience to let me focus on the different areas that needed my attention. Special gratitude goes to my parents who, over the years, have taken my calls at any hour, not only to hear about my latest dramas, but also to take care of my most mundane details.
As we finish this website, I have to say, this has been the most precious gift I have ever received. It captures my life over the past 11 years -- and will even allow my son to get a glimpse of the other side of his mom. Professionally, I am still not clear on what I want to do with the rest of my life but I do know, whatever it is, I want it to be full of passion, creativity, brand and awesome talent!
Thanks guys! And thanks for proving that a smile makes a difference.
